[Bout of Books 11] The Master Post

A real wrap-up post is coming as well. Soon… Later…

The last two days of Bout of Books usually consist of lots of procrastinating and very little reading.
I can live with that, though, because my procrastinating involves Bob’s Burgers (best show!).

Life happened so I didn’t reach my daily 200 pages but that’s fine.

Finally finished NOS4A2 and I’m a bit disappointed. It started out great, Kate Mulgrew was great throughout but it dragged. 700 pages weren’t necessary, 500 pages would’ve been more than enough, in my opinion. I’m going to read the corresponding comic book anyway.
The other two books are my new goal. I want to finish them until tomorrow night. I won’t, though, I just want to. At my current pace it won’t happen but I can read most of them.

HA! I did it, I reched my overall goal of 1400 pages early.

You know what pisses me off? Authors making shit up about German and not letting someone who can actually speak German proofread their crap. “Nosferatu” is NOT the German word for “vampire”, Mr. Hill.
I would do it for free just to not have to sit through this inaccuracy.

I’m so close to reach my overall goal. SO CLOSE! *throws confetti*

Enjoying this a lot. Kate Mulgrew is doing a fantastic job!

Dropped another one and at 80%. I just couldn’t do it anymore… And reaching 200 pages was a close one. I hope tomorrow will be better again.

I gave up on the rape-y porn book and chose this one instead. It is narrated by Kate Mulgrew! You know, Kathryn Janeway (Star Trek: Voyager) and Red (OITNB).

bound heat

In my defense: I bought Bound To Accept because Nenia is a really great person. I’m half way though and it almost hurts me to say but it’s stupid. Might be because I have a strong aversion to modern popculture references. I don’t know why but it makes me uncomfortable if Tumblr, My Little Pony and the like are mentioned in books. Feels like “LOOK! I’M TOTALLY IN TUNE WITH THE YOUNG PEOPLE!” which is weird because Nenia is younger than me but it feels like that anyway.
I might have to drop Visions Of Heat because it’s way too rape-y for me. You can write sexy books without making the male lead a ginormous douchenozzle. It’s kind of sad because apart from the “romance” (for lack of a better word, it’s not really a romance when the woman says “gtfo” and the man doesn’t give a shit) it’s actually a really interesting world and plot.

The Departure with 159 pages is missing

heat rise

I can feel you judging me! Stop it, I feel bad enough already. No idea why I suddenly thought “You know what I should read? Beastiality porn!” but here I am, listening to the audiobook…
My TBR is not up to date anymore as you might have already noticed (ha, I’m talking to you like I’m important enough for you to pay attention, let me live in my dream world a bit longer!) and so I’ve now started another Man Booker Prize longlist book. And you know what I realized? I’m not smart enough to appreciate literary fiction. The writing is exhausting and it’s also boring. Maybe I’m just bad at choosing these (which wouldn’t be too far off tbh. I’m bad at choosing good books) but so far I do not see the appeal.

It was short but it was also not great. I really don’t like those from Cassie’s point of view because I don’t like Cassie.

king geek love

I finished both of them. Half A King was okay and I HATED Geek Love. It was so absurd, everyone was unlikeable and the author put in things to shock the reader but at some point that just became boring. “Oh great, another amputation *yawns*.”

Reached today’s goal of 200 pages. Good start.

Still reading Half A King and still liking it.

I had a bit of a brain fart and thought “Hey, I should try again to read the first Black Dagger Brotherhood book because it will be hilarious.” I dropped it after 20min. Past me from 2010 was right to DNF it.

Starting the first day with this. I’m not very far in but I’m already liking it a lot.

  1. What an awesome, organized way to do it! I have a spreadsheet as well but mine isn’t colorful like yours. Congrats on reading so much! Happy reading and good luck for day 2 πŸ™‚

    • Thank you πŸ˜€ You don’t want to see the rest of it. It’s very, very, VERY colorful, you can’t look at it directly or else you’d go blind.
A great day 2 to you, too πŸ™‚

    • I agree, I’m really disappointed. It started out interestingly and then it kind of went downhill at about 50%. Oh well, can’t like everything πŸ˜€
Thank you and good luck to you too! (Damnit, there will come a day when I finally get to reading the second and third book by Laini Taylor. Today is not that day…)

    • Thank you very much. I’m (not so) secretly very proud of my Spreadsheet of Wonders. It can do so much more but posting the whole thing is irrelevant for BoB πŸ˜‰

  2. WOW! I am totally jealous of your organization. I need to be more organized, in general! LOL!

I have a good friend who just read Half a King and she was raving about it, so I look forward to seeing your review at the end of this!

    • Thank you πŸ˜‰ I’m only organized when it comes to my reading. I’ve been using this spreadsheet since April and it’s wonderful because it motivates me to read more πŸ™‚

It may take a while because I’m really, really, really behind in reviewing my books. I’ll try to get to it soon.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ Reading Animorphs for the first time at age 2*mumbles* is kind of traumatizing. They are children’s books and they’re so brutal!
      Good luck to you, too!

  3. You are doing an amazing job so far. I stopped reading after Animorphs after book 5, when I was a teen, sometimes I wonder what happens next…but it’s not enough to make me pick the series up again. Anyway, keep up the good work and happy reading πŸ™‚

    • I’m in a race with a friend, who can finish the series first so I’m keeping at it. Although I dislike half of the books because they’re from Cassie’s or Jake’s view. Those two are so annoying… But overall I’m kind of enjoying them and they’re incredibly short as well πŸ˜‰
      Thank you! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks and I still haven’t started one that blew me away. The quality of the books this BoB is a bit disappointing but I’m to blame since I chose them πŸ˜‰
Good luck to you on the last day!

  4. Unfortunately, my hubby says I wouldn’t like Nos4a2, or I’d read it for Kate’s narration. I bet she did well. I love Wil Wheaton’s narration. I found METAtropolis that has the 2nd book done with a bunch of ST people doing it. πŸ™‚ Here’s my Day 3 Update.

    • She’s amazing and I think she’s making the book better than it is. It’s currently very, very slow.
Wil Wheaton’s narration of Ready Player One was SO! GOOD!
Maaaan, you’ve read more than twice as much! I get too easily disctracted by the internet 😦

  5. First of all, I love your format for recording your BoB progress! really creative and really organized! =)

Secondly, I am happy to see that you are enjoying Nos4a2 on audio. I have been intersted in reading that title, and I love a good audiobook, so I will have to check it out!

You are making fantastic progress! Impressive! #readstrong

    • Thank you very much πŸ™‚ I’m trying to keep it simple and organized because when I visit other blogs during BoB and I’m greeted by a wall of unformatted text that doesn’t make ME to stay there long enough to comment πŸ˜‰

I may have said this about 20 times during the last 48 hours but KATE MULGREW IS DOING A FANTASTIC JOB! I’m going to take all the credit for you checking out the book, just so you know πŸ˜‰

  6. I looooove your daily spreadsheet thingy! My inner Excel nerd is very, very happy playing on this post. πŸ™‚

I’m very curious about NOS4R2, but it’s still only out in trade paperback here, not a nice normal non-brick sized one, so I haven’t bought a copy yet. Don’t get me started on the hardback, which could legitimately kill people. Anyway, I’m off to see how far I can get through The Forest of Hands and Teeth – I want to start something new tomorrow so I’d better get me head down! Happy reading…

    • Thank you! I did not expect to get so much love for my spreadsheet. I LOVE it that there are so many Excel nerds out there πŸ˜‰
NOS4A2 was too long. Kate Mulgrew made it better than it was, I think. But then again the books by Joe Hill’s father bore me to death as well and people LOVE Stephen King so… Try it? Good luck if you do πŸ˜‰

The Forest of Hands and Teeth is on my TBR as well. I may not get to it this decade because I TBR is seriously out of hand!
      Have a great last day!

  7. I have been choosing people randomly from the linky to visit. And I had to pick you as I love your blog name! So true, that’s me too πŸ™‚

You are doing great! Love the colour coordinated goals and updates. Enjoy the rest of the readathon .

  8. You’ve done very well this week! And I’m another one who’s procrastinating these last few hours. I have 3/4 of a book left to get through before midnight, and instead I’m debating between cleaning my house or taking a nap this afternoon, snort.
